Gott Thermos - A Diamond In The Rough
I recently got a 2 quart Rubbermaid Gott Thermos for 4 dollars from a bargain bin and didn't realize how useful and precious it can be. First of all, when people hear the word thermos, they imagine one of those tall, thin, vacuum flasks used by industrial workers to store hot coffee. The Gott Thermos I bought is not like that. It's basically an insulated plastic jug cooler similar to the more recent Coleman coolers. But it serves the same purpose, it's vacuum sealed and insulated so anything stored in it will maintain its temperature for a much longer time.
Another thing is that Gott thermos brands are rare and extremely hard to find these days, resulting in a cult-like following among collectors, so I guess finding it being sold cheap on a thrift store makes me all sorts of lucky, despite its importance and rarity being lost on me. I basically just bought the Gott thermos because I know I could have some use for it, and partly because it brought back memories from my childhood. As my childhood was spent in a school where plastic jugs and coolers similar to it were used in abundance.
The Gott thermos I brought home had a white colored lid with spout and handle, matched with a blue body. It's ten inches tall and six and a half inches around in size and can hold 2 quarts of water with temperatures ranging from hot, cold, or lukewarm. I haven't tested its limits but it can keep the temperature consistently for 4 hours. I haven't tested it much longer than that.
Lately I've been using the thermos more and more and becoming increasingly dependent on it. I put iced water on it and lug it along to the gym during my weekly workouts, and even got weird stares from officemates when I started bringing it to the office filled with hot coffee. I admit that hot coffee looked out of place in what looks like a water jug meant for cold water, but it works perfectly well for coffee as well. I think the box and paper that came with it explicitly mentioned said fact.
I also took it to the park a few days ago, having filled it with hot soup. It was perfect for the cold morning, just sitting on a bench with a Gott thermos and a plastic spoon having my way with the soup. I admit I must have looked like a well-dressed hobo that time, but it felt good and relaxing. It's a little convenience that may have gone a long way towards feeling refreshed and active longer and easier throughout the day.
Right now the trusty Gott thermos is beside my PC, as I find that filling it with hot coffee meant that I could save some time going back and forth from the computer table to the kitchen just to fix myself a cup, and I can also take my time in drinking the coffee without worrying about it going cold on me. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing but the 6 dollar thermos that nobody notices already became a large part of my daily life, and I hope that it's as durable and long lasting as its box claims.

What Kind of Cage For a Leopard Gecko Will You Get?
Most people who need a cage for a leopard gecko (properly called a vivarium) opt for something simple. Basic 20-gallon plastic tanks do all that you need them to and are not expensive, but if you want to go beyond that then there's no shortage of options.
Go fancy
If you want something that's going to be nice to look at in your home, you might want to consider a tank that's finished in wood. Oak, beech and walnut are all available, and all have a much more sophisticated air than basic plastic. They actually look like something you wouldn't mind having in your living room.
Go extra-large
A 20 gallon tank is plenty for one or even two leos (as long as they're both female), but there are certain advantages to super-sizing your choice of tank. Probably the biggest advantage is that it allows you a lot more space to create a really natural-looking environment - with plants, rocks and other natural elements - while still providing your leo with enough floor space for it to roam around in.
Some large tanks incorporate a cupboard underneath them, which is a neat and convenient place to store essential supplies for your leo.
Add some natural-look hide boxes
A couple of hide boxes are a must in any leopard gecko tank. Leos are nocturnal, so not having a dark place to hide out during daylight hours will make them very stressed and unhappy. And what do most leopard gecko owners use in this role? A Rubbermaid-style plastic container with an access hole hacked out of the side. Yes, this will work, but there are plenty more attractive options. You can purchase hide boxes that look just like logs, little caves, tunnels and so on, and they're not expensive either.
An example is Zoo Med's 'Repti Shelter 3 in 1 Cave.' For about , you get a natural looking hide box that can be used as a humidity chamber to help your leo shed, or as an egg laying chamber for your pregnant female. Not a bad deal!
Add plants
If you have a vivarium that's big enough, some plants are a really nice addition to it. You can use real plants, but frankly it's probably not worth it. That's because some plants are harmful to leopard geckos if they eat them, they can raise the humidity in the vivarium beyond where you want it, and because keeping indoor plants alive is never easy at the best of times.
There are plenty of very realistic looking artificial plants that are specially made for reptile enclosures. Because leos have a dry habitat in the wild it's not really appropriate to go with a full rainforest, but a couple of spikier-style artificial plants would be right on the money.
However you choose to fit out your cage for a leopard gecko keep your pet in mind and keep it similar to its natural habitat.

How To Bath A Bearded Dragon
Many bearded dragons owner don't know how to keep a
dragon clean, so here are some words about bathing
a bearded dragon. This should give you the basics about.
Bathing is an important part in keeping a healthy dragon. Regular
bathing helps improve the Beardie's overall hydration status and
keep the Beardie clean and happy.
Most Bearded Dragons prefer to potty in the tub (making it very
easy for you to clean up after them and disinfect the surfaces).
Baths also help during shedding, keeping the loosening skin soft.
Some Beardies are comfortable bathing in the sink or the bath tub
and others may not like bath time at all. You can try placing a
see-through Rubbermaid container on your countertop and gently
placing your Beardie inside. He may feel more comfortable resting
on your hand while it is submerged in the water. Or you could try
rolling up a wash cloth and letting him rest his arms on it. They
need to feel secure or they will never enjoy bath time.
While bathing your Bearded Dragon, the bath water should ideally be
warm on your wrist and not hot, much like bath water for a small
child. Make the water only as deep as your Beardie's chest or half
way up their front arms. You should never leave your Beardie
unattended in the bath because accidents only take a second to
happen.
The ideal temperature for the bath water should be ...

The Best Laundry System
Here's why I think the following is the best laundry system. As a professional organizer, I've read a lot about laundry schedules and recommendations.
Being a Jewish homemaker as well, I know how much laundry I tend to accumulate.
We are also under time constraints. We need everything clean by the Sabbath. Or, we go through days and cannot do any laundry! With these timely demands, we need to have the best laundry system in place.
A Laundry "day" is not enough for us. There are times you may want to have a "laundry day" in addition to your daily loads if necessary. Perhaps Thursday is a good day to change all the linens. Or Saturday night to throw in the white load and stains needing special attention.
Here is what I recommend.
Put a large long laundry table in your laundry room. Place 4 large baskets under the laundry table on the floor.
After every shower, every change of clothes, the dirty clothes are brought into the laundry room and are then thrown into the the baskets on the floor, labeled: whites, colors, towels, handwash/delicates.
Once any of these extra large baskets are full, you know it is time to do a wash. It will probably average out to one load a day.
On top of the laundry table, designate and label a laundry basket for each member of your family.
If you can pick a different color for each person, even better! Keep the laundry baskets in your laundry room (if the laundry room is very accessible). Once the clothes are clean, you can fold them on your laundry table (or hang up the clothes), put them into each person's basket and let them know when their basket is clean.
This system is doable because of the presorted laundry system you have on the bottom. Kids know to bring their dirty clothing in right away and put them in the appropriate bin.
Other organizing advice may tell you to keep laundry baskets in each child's room, I find that this is more work. Who is going to collect the dirty clothes from each room or bring in each person's hamper? Rooms are neater and the laundry flows smoother.
This system is doable because of the presorted laundry system-That way, you don't need to think twice how the clothes need to be separated. Put a picture of Shabbos clothes on one bin. A picture of socks, towels, and undergarments can go on another bin. you have on the bottom. Kids know to bring their dirty clothing in right away and put them in the appropriate bin.

Who is going to collect the dirty clothes from each room or bring in each person's hamper? Rooms are neater and the laundry flows smoother. This is another reason why I do think this way is the best laundry system.
If your laundry room is not very accessible:
Keep all of the dirty clothes in one area upstairs. When that area is full, bring the clothes downstairs. Sort the clothes into your presorted laundry bins. Wash and fold clothes and then bring each person's colored basket up to the main floor and have the children put their own baskets away.
Could you possibly make your laundry room more accessible? What about installing a laundry chute or moving the laundry room up to a floor where the bedrooms and bathrooms are? You could even use a small closet in the bathroom or put the laundry machines in the kitchen.
If you are limited by vents or washing machine hook ups, or you live in an apartment, there is a solution that can work for you. Ventless washer and dryers do exist, here's a link to one at Home Depot.
You just need a water-source, drain line, and 110 volt power. I know this kind of machine takes a little while longer to dry, so why not do the lighter loads upstairs, and then go back down to your basement for the towels/sheets loads.
It is definitely worth looking into if your laundry room is in the basement. Now you can move your machines upstairs and turn your upstairs into the best laundry system you've ever had!
If you still cannot move your washer and dryer to be more accessible, at least give your laundry room a facelift to make it more cozy!
